Kate Nash: Do Wah Doo
Do Wah Doo is the first single from Kate Nash’s second studio album and thankfully retains a style faithful to her previous album.
Whilst the track isn’t the most exciting in the world its difficult not to enjoy listening to Kate’s voice. She sounds like a real person and isn’t out to be the most technically brilliant singer in the world, a style which helped make her career along with her impressive ability to play piano (given the majority of modern artists credentials).
The single itself however is a bit more radio friendly than previous singles, dropping Kate’s cheeky swearing which arguably gave her the unique sound which shot her to fame with the release of Foundations in 2007.
Whilst the Do Wah Doo is very listenable, it can however grate. The following is an excerpt from the lyrics:
“Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum
Bam ba dum Ba dum Ba dum Ba dum”
Although this feels like filler the rest of the song is well written and is everything Kate Nash’s fans have come to expect.
This new single feels different yet familiar and still retains Kate’s charm, there’s no doubt that we’ll continue to hear her music for years to come.
