Glamour of the Kill @ Joiners
Joiners, Southampton
Support: Shadows Chasing Ghosts, Prolong the Agony
The modest queue that developed outside Joiners in Southampton on Thursday night would give the impression that the band about to play was nothing more than a fairly decent local band. The unassuming numbers however did not indicate the performance that the mere £7.00 ticket price would give these few people.
The evening started with support from Prolong the Agony and Shadows Chasing Ghosts – both put on a good show and did a great job of warming the crowd up with their energetic performances and encouragement for mosh pits and walls of death. With the stage being the only thing to separate them from the fans there was nothing to get in the way of people having a good time.
The band everyone had come for however was Glamour of the Kill. Fresh from releasing their first studio album The Summoning, they took to the stage to an epic sounding intro track and immediately blasted their way into their setlist, starting with the free to download track Supremacy.
The sound was incredible especially considering the size of the venue and in an instant GOTK showed people why they are getting the press they are in music magazines and in the hard rock and metal scene. Each song they played had the crowd moving and singing along without dropping a beat throughout.
Old and new songs were well received, from EP track Rise From Your Grave to new tracks like Dying from the Inside and Lost Souls. Their relatively short setlist climaxed with probably the best song of the night, Feeling Alive, from their new album which summed up the thoughts of the audience who had just witnessed something special.
Glamour of the Kill proved their prowess in more ways than most other new bands out there putting on a show that left everyone who attended wanting more, I’m getting my tickets for Yeovil now.
